SOINS
Info Lavandula
Lavandula, better known as ‘lavender’, is a much-loved Mediterranean plant with deliciously fragrant purple flowers. It attracts bees and butterflies and creates a soothing, summery atmosphere in the garden or on the patio. Lavender is not only decorative; it can also be used in scented sachets or as a culinary herb.
Light
Lavender thrives in sunny spots. The more sun it gets, the better the plant grows and flowers. A spot in full sun is absolutely ideal.
Watering
Water moderately and allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings. Lavender tolerates drought but does not cope well with overly damp soil. Ensure the soil is well-drained, possibly mixed with a little sand.
Temperature
Lavender loves the heat and is quite drought-tolerant. Most varieties are hardy, but damp winters often cause more problems than the cold.
Care
Prune lavender twice a year: a light pruning after flowering and a slightly more severe pruning in spring (without cutting into the old wood). This encourages compact growth and prevents the wood from becoming woody. Remove deadhead the flowers to prolong flowering. Use little or no fertiliser for best results.
