Peperomia is a versatile, compact houseplant that comes in a surprising variety of leaf shapes, colours and textures. Whether glossy and crinkled or thick and fleshy, each variety has its own character. Peperomia is an excellent choice for those with little time, as it requires minimal care.

Light Peperomia thrives best in a bright to semi-shaded spot with indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as this will scorch its leaves. Variegated varieties need slightly more light than solid green varieties to maintain their pattern.

Watering Peperomia stores water in its leaves and thick stems, which allows it to tolerate drought well. Water as soon as the top half of the soil feels dry to the touch and allow the pot to drain thoroughly. In winter, the soil may dry out almost completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common mistake and quickly leads to root rot.

Temperature The ideal temperature is between 18 and 24 degrees. Peperomia is sensitive to the cold and draughts. Do not place it near an open window in winter or close to an air conditioner.

Care Peperomia requires virtually no care. Occasionally remove yellowed leaves from the base. During the growing season, in spring and summer, feed the plant with half a dose of liquid fertiliser once a month. Only repot the Peperomia when it becomes really too big, as it thrives best in a pot that is slightly too small.
