SOINS
Info Dieffenbachia
Dieffenbachia is a striking houseplant, featuring large, broad leaves with beautiful green, cream and yellow patterns. Thanks to its tropical appearance and hardiness, it has been a popular choice for both homes and offices for decades. Dieffenbachia can grow to a considerable size and eventually becomes a real eye-catcher in any room.
Light Dieffenbachia thrives particularly well in a bright to semi-shaded spot with indirect light. It tolerates low light better than many other large houseplants, but grows faster in a brighter location. Variegated varieties need more light to maintain their patterns. Avoid direct sunlight, as this will quickly scorch the leaves.
Watering Water the Dieffenbachia moderately, as soon as the top 2–3 centimetres of soil feel dry to the touch. Ensure the pot drains properly and make sure it is never left standing in water for long periods. In winter, the plant needs less water. It prefers moderate humidity; it is therefore recommended to mist it occasionally or wipe its leaves with a damp cloth.
Temperature The ideal temperature is between 18 and 26 degrees. Dieffenbachia is sensitive to the cold and draughts. Do not place it near an open window in winter or close to an air conditioner.
Care Warning: Dieffenbachia sap is toxic and can cause skin irritation and temporary speech difficulties if ingested. Wear gloves when pruning or repotting. Regularly remove yellowed or damaged leaves at the base and, during the growing season in spring and summer, give the plant a small dose of liquid fertiliser once a month.
